Remember Loril and her girls?

When Loril found out she was expecting baby #2 in 2019, her husband demanded she get an abortion. By God’s grace, she turned away from abortion at a facility in Georgia when she met with evangelist Steven Smith and other Christians there. She says they were an answer to her prayers and the sign from God she needed. She chose to keep her baby, come what may.

And many things came…

When, against her husband’s wishes, Loril decided not to abort their daughter, he abandoned her and their family. He cancelled her application for permanent residency when he left. She had come to the U.S. on a student visa from Jamaica. When her husband left, she did not have a work permit to be able to provide for her family. Then baby Lydia came early…really early, at just over 25 weeks. She spent months in the NICU.

After that day at the abortion facility in Georgia, Loril was put in contact with Erika here in Bristol for counsel and encouragement. They have remained friends ever since.

Maybe you remember…

When baby Lydia came so early, many of you helped us buy out her baby registry and make sure they had everything they needed.

And you stepped in again to meet the need when attorney and immigration application fees were required to file for her work permit and permanent residency.

Loril has come a long way…

Praise the Lord, she has her work permit and permanent residence now! Her girls Ava and Lydia are doing well.

But her next hurdle is transportation.

She has been working off and on as she has been able to find work nearby their home. She just recently passed her drivers test and gained her license, but they have no vehicle.

Transportation is a challenge. Imagine Ubering everywhere you need to go with two carseats in tow. This is expensive and exhausting. It also limits available jobs to ones very close to home.

We would like to provide a vehicle for Loril and her girls. Will you help?

Please read more of Loril’s story below, and help us meet this need if you are able.

A note from loril

Hello. Good day. I hope you are doing great.

My name is Loril Cato and I am a friend of Erika Schanzenbach.

We have met before, through Erika. Not in person, but you have helped me and my family about 4 years ago.

Just a little trip down memory lane… I was in a situation where my husband had abandoned my family and told me to abort my pregnancy. At the time, I did not have a status in the country. You helped me with all the items my baby needed and you also covered the cost of my immigration proceedings.

Today I want to also report that, since then, I have received permanent residency and can now live, work and raise my children here with out issues. Thank you very much for all your help. All praise be to God!

My daughter, Lydia, turned 4 on February 13th. She is doing great! You could not look at her and tell she was a micro preemie and only weighed 1.9 pounds when she was born, with a minimal chance of surviving. She is so strong and brave and caring and over protective of her big sister. She loves school. She loves dancing and singing and making up her own songs. She showers everyone with hugs and love and encouraging words. She reminds us to pray at nights before we go to bed, and interjects in the middle of my prayer to remind me to pray for her sister, her classmates and our neighbors. She is literally “4 yrs going on forty.”

I am writing you because we are in need of your help once again. Since I moved back to Georgia to live and work, it has not been easy with transportation, but I have been doing my best to make it work. We have been taking Uber and taxis for years, back and forth. However, it’s has gotten harder to do for a number of factors. Firstly, Uber fare is really high and it affects my decision to travel many times. Some days It’s very hectic to drop off my children at daycare and school and pick them back up before and after work. In addition, I struggle with two (2) car seats in the Uber, back and forth from daycare, the store, church, doctor’s appointments and so on.

Because I don’t drive, I have been choosing nearby jobs, churches, schools that don’t suit me or my girls. They are not necessarily good options, but because they are closer to my home.

I have recently obtained my drivers license after what seemed like an eternity learning to drive. I had a phobia for driving, but my good friends, the Smith Family, Steven and Rachelle, worked relentlessly, helping me with driving lessons, while their wonderful daughter, Chela, watches my girls. They did an extraordinary job. They also never left us out, always helping us every chance they get. I am so grateful for them. They are truly a blessing to my family.

I am now ready to drive, and I am seeking assistance in buying a car suitable for my family. This car will make my life much less hectic. Simply everyday activities will not seem so tedious anymore. My children will travel in comfort, instead of squeezing in the back of a Ubers, or missing out on important events and appointments because a Uber didn’t arrive on time or canceled last minute. Owning a car would give me more independence and freedom to travel when and where I want to go without the hustle and bustle or the hefty fares.

Words are inadequate to express to you how much your help would mean to me, but if I should try , I would say, your help would put an end to one of my greatest issue and raise and uplift my life in an extraordinary way.

Thank You. God bless you.
